Despite resounding Oppo advice to take my hooptie on the road trip for the weekend, my girlfriend has the final say on these sort of things. And also, she is 100% right that its just not worth the risk. I really havent driven the car enough to say confidently that it’s ready to go. If I was making the trip myself? Then sure I’d do it. But I can’t put her at risk or make her deal with waiting for me to roadside repair the thing. I will still find another excuse to road trip the Neon the following weekend though. I am sure the BRZ will be more fun and more comfortable anyways!
Im probably just going to be more convinced that I need to buy one of these in the future. I really had zero complaints other than the stock tires in the last one I tried out. It was just perfect for cruising around and enjoying scenery. I will try and find some twisties as well, Im sure the more mountainy areas in CT should be able to help out with that.

woah woah woah
original post skipped the vital info that you were taking your GF on the hooptie roadtrip.
of COURSE you take a reliable rented BRZ.
not until she is committed as a wife do you get to reveal your desire to fix a broken Neon on the side of the highway

Review when you get back, if you don’t mind.

Some girls like road trips in interesting old cars but no girl likes relying on a hooptie to get to their destination.

I feel mislead. I would have said to rent the BRZ if I knew that the GF was going on the trip too.

Hahahaha Im glad I left out that important detail. But also glad I made the right choice anyways. It makes sense that that would be an important tidbit to include.

Yeah she loves riding in my Miata, because I have put a million hours of driving it and work on it all the time. Plus its in general very good mechanical shape. She is just much more practical than me when it comes to “eh thats laters problem if it breaks down”

Kind of already did that, but of course I will provide more thoughts to Oppo!

Im especially curious of the minor differences between the FRS and BRZ. I doubt I will even really notice it but who knows.

Probably mostly in comfort and interior tech? Guess you’ll find out.

Have fun with it. The FA20 in the BRZ doesn’t start to come alive until your over around 4500rpm, so make sure to keep the revs up.

I think the biggest difference is suspension tuning. The FRS is set up to be a bit looser while the BRZ is set up to be more neutral.

woah woah woah...
The stock tires are god’s own gift to this car. Low grip with excellent communication makes for a great driving experience similar to the “sporty” tires of the 80's whose automotive experience the 86 seeks to emulate.
I still throw them on my turbocharged FR-S from time to time for the lulz.

Well I haven’t worked on the radio yet so the neon is lacking there for sure. And roll down Windows are something new to my girlfriend lol. Plus comfort mainly meant I won’t have to walk someplace because the car broke lol. Also I just really love the seating position in the 86 twins

Then you’ll hate the BRZ/86.

Nah this guy replaced his tires with less terrible ones! I don’t need 200tw autocross tires on a street car but any halfway decent tire is good for me
